3,Technical Advantages

The principle of galvanisation can be understood on two levels: the process principle (how the coating is applied) and the corrosion prevention principle (how rust is prevented). There are primarily two processes: hot-dip galvanising and electrogalvanising:
I. Hot-Dip Galvanising Principle
Steel components are immersed in molten zinc at approximately 450°C, forming a coating through high-temperature metallurgical reactions.
The process comprises three stages:
Surface activation: Following acid pickling to remove rust, steel components are immersed in a fluxing agent (ammonium zinc chloride solution) to eliminate surface oxide layers, exposing the iron substrate's "active surface".
Wetting reaction: Upon immersion in molten zinc, iron and liquid zinc undergo mutual diffusion—iron atoms dissolve into the zinc bath while zinc atoms permeate the steel surface, forming an Fe-Zn alloy layer (bonded as firmly as welding).
Coating formation: After removal, a layer of pure zinc adheres to the outer surface. Upon cooling, the structure forms from the inside out:
Steel substrate → Fe-Zn alloy layer → Pure zinc layer
II. Electroplating Zinc Principle (Electroplating)
Utilises electrolytic cell reactions to deposit zinc layers onto steel surfaces.
The process resembles "battery charging":
Cathode: Steel component (connected to power source negative terminal)
Anode: Zinc plate (connected to power source positive terminal)
Electrolyte: Zinc salt solution containing Zn²⁺ ions
Upon applying current, the following reactions occur:
Anode: Zinc plate dissolves → Zn²⁺ ions enter the solution
Cathode: Zn²⁺ ions + 2e⁻ → Zinc atoms deposit onto the steel surface
By controlling the current, duration, and solution composition, the coating thickness and lustre can be precisely regulated.
